Club Development Grants aim to support clubs and volunteers to increase participation in sport and physical activity in Kilkenny. They encourage the setup of new clubs and assist existing clubs to attract new participants. Minority sports, low participation groups and the target groups identified in the Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership strategy will be prioritised. Clubs must be affiliated to a Sport Ireland recognised NGB or disability organisation, that operates as a not for profit organisation.
The KRSP Club Development Grant Scheme is designed to assist clubs in enhancing sports participation across Kilkenny. In 2023 11 local sports clubs have received funding through this initiative. These grants promote the establishment of new clubs and assist existing ones in attracting new participants.
Nicola Keeshan, Sports Coordinator at KRSP, commented on the initiative, stating, “Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership’s Club Development Grants bolster the commendable efforts of local clubs in providing opportunities for participation in sports and active recreation. These grants serve as a catalyst for the development of initiatives.”
