DESCRIPTION:Kilkenny Recreation & Sports Partnership (KRSP) is excited to announce our Understanding Physical Literacy Workshop\, part of Sport Ireland’s Understanding Physical Literacy Week! \nThis is a free\, 3 hour event running from 6pm to 9pm on the 27th March\, online via zoom.\n \nWhat is Physical Literacy?\nPhysical literacy is the complete understanding of movement – how and why we move. It sets a foundation for lifelong physical activity\, boosting health\, mental health and confidence. \nWho should attend?\nSport Ireland is encouraging those interested in physical activity and those who support others in being active – such as teachers\, coaches\, and instructors – to sign up for the workshop. \nWhy should you attend?\nWe live and work in a world where sedentary lifestyles are increasingly normal – it doesn’t have to be that way. By attending our workshop\, you will gain valuable insights into physical literacy\, which can be used to decrease this trend. You can learn how to coach others using physical literacy principles\, which will help promote lifelong physical activity and engagement in sports. SUMMARY:Remote Emergency Care (REC 3)
DESCRIPTION:This is a limited event with 4 spaces available for each club. This is extremely strict. \nRemote Emergency Care level 3 has an internationally recognised curriculum. The course fulfils the requirements of all major sporting governing bodies including Mountaineering Ireland and Canoe Ireland. It is run by outdoor medical experts with experience in both the medical field and in outdoor pursuits. \nThis training will be carried out by Barry Redmond. It is 2 full days of training to receive accreditation. The brakes and gears MUST WORK PROPERLY. The tyres must be CORRECTLY INFLATED (see side of tyre for this information). Please do not attend the programme with a bike that is not fit for cycling. Our tutors are engaged to teach cycling and not to conduct bike repairs. \nALL participants will be required to wear a helmet for the programme at all times – no exceptions. \nNOTE FOR PARTICIPANTS: If you have a bike but are not yet cycling\, please remove the pedals before the first session. Each session lasts one hour and turning up with issues with the bike takes away from tuition time and holds up the session for all the other participants and the tutors. DESCRIPTION:Come and walk with us on this tutor led programme each Friday morning at 10.00-11.00am. The programme is 10 weeks long from September 27th to December 6th with no walk on November 1st (mid term / Halloween). \nMeet at the Coffee Shop in Kilkenny Castle Park each Friday morning for 10am start. We will be supplying Activator Walking Poles (similar to Nordic Poles) as these help us to stretch\, walk in a nice upright way and they’re also useful for balance and for doing some light exercises when we’re finished our walk. You don’t have to use the poles if you don’t wish. ALL levels and abilities are welcome to join in the programme and we look forward to seeing you there. Nobody will be left behind. DESCRIPTION:Designated Liaison Person (DLP) – Every club/organisation should designate a person to be responsible for dealing with any concerns about the protection of children. The DLP is responsible for reporting allegations or suspicions of child abuse to TULSA Child and Family Agency or Social Services (NI) and/or An Garda Siochána / PSNI. It is recommended that this person is a senior club person. However\, if there is difficulty identifying a separate individual to take this role\, the Club Children’s Officer can be appointed as DLP once the club/organisation is clear about the responsibilities of each role.  The organisation’s child protection policy and procedures should include the name and contact details of the DLP and the responsibilities attached to the role. \nA person appointed to the Designated Liaison Person position in a club must firstly complete Sport Irelands Child Welfare & Protection Basic Awareness Workshop and should complete the Sport Irelands Designated Liaison Person 3 hour workshop. SUMMARY:Swim Buddy application
DESCRIPTION:Kilkenny Recreation & Sports Partnership organise a programme of supported swim lessons for children with disabilities. This swim programme caters for children who require additional support in the water while learning to swim\, this may be because of physical\, sensory or a learning disability. The programme gives children a chance to avail of swim lessons in a supported environment. \nThe classes typically run in 10 week block from October to December and January to Easter and finally a six week block from Easter to end of school term. \nThe focus of the lessons is to ensure the children have fun and become comfortable in the pool and relaxed in the water! Once the child is relaxed in the water\, the learning begins! \nTo ensure that all children get the attention they need\, KRSP run a volunteer programme for swim buddies. Our volunteer swim buddies are transition year students in local secondary schools and often participate as part of their An Gaisce award. It is also a useful way of helping to build your early stage CV. \nRole of the Volunteer Swim Buddy \n\nTo provide one to one assistance to children with additional needs in the water.\nVolunteers must be able to commit to attend the majority of the classes.\nEncouraging enjoyment and fun in the water is the volunteer’s most important role.\n\nWhat is needed for the role? \n\nA willingness to help others – bring your personality to the child.\nVolunteers must be comfortable being in the water (not necessary to be a brilliant swimmer!) and an interest in swimming or aquatics would be an advantage!\nVolunteers should be willing to put children at ease and be encouraging to all!\n\nYouth volunteer application MUST BE completed by a parent / guardian on behalf of the youth volunteer. KRSP will only communicate with parents / guardians on this programme. \nYouth volunteers must be aged 15-17 years old. Those aged 16/17 will be Garda vetted with parental/guardian consent. While the Garda Vetting process takes place\, those who are 15 years old will join the programme in September. Those not 16 until after Christmas\, or those already vetted by KRSP will join the programme in January. This will ensure that the programme is up and running on time for the young swimmers. \nKRSP staff will be on hand at all times to help\, encourage and manage the volunteer group. We are always on deck for every minute of the programme to help. \nThis programme is funded by Healthy Ireland. The Healthy Ireland Fund is supported by the Department of Health.
