Today, Kilkenny Recreation & Sports Partnership (KRSP) announced its support of €31,181 allocated across 4 programmes aimed at enhancing local sports and physical activity opportunities. This involves 19 sports clubs and 4 community groups that have successfully applied for funding.
The KRSP Club Development Grant Scheme is designed to assist clubs in enhancing sports participation across Kilkenny. 11 local sports clubs have received funding through this initiative. These grants promote the establishment of new clubs and assist existing ones in attracting new participants.
Nicola Keeshan, Sports Coordinator at KRSP, commented on the initiative, stating, “Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership’s Club Development Grants bolster the commendable efforts of local clubs in providing opportunities for participation in sports and active recreation. These grants serve as a catalyst for the development of initiatives.”
Under the KRSP Volunteer Support Programme 8 sports clubs have been awarded. This programme assists local clubs and organisations in training and enhancing the skills of their volunteers, thereby improving the quality of coaching, and increasing participation. Clubs operating in disadvantaged communities or running inclusion programmes are given particular consideration in the allocation of funding. The funding aims to boost participants’ confidence and contribute to making our communities better through their volunteer work in sports.
The KRSP Women in Sport Support Programme will fund 8 projects throughout Kilkenny to encourage more women to participate in recreational sports or physical activities. This programme was created to elevate women’s overall physical activity levels and to strengthen their involvement within sports organisations.
Ciara Kelly, Community Sports Development Officer at KRSP, expressed enthusiasm for the Women in Sport Support Programme, saying, “Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership is delighted to extend our support to local clubs and organisations through the Women in Sport Support Programme. This initiative marks a significant step forward in promoting equality. We believe in fostering an inclusive environment where everyone, regardless of gender, can excel and thrive.”
The KRSP 2023 COVID-19 Small Grant Scheme continues to help sports clubs, community groups, and organisations kick-start sports and physical activities, as well as reconnect with old members and welcome new ones. 7 sports clubs and 4 community groups have been chosen to receive assistance through this grant scheme, helping to mitigate the enduring effects of COVID-19 and foster a resilient rebuilding process.
KRSP is excited to see the funded projects coming to fruition over the coming months. KRSP remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting local clubs throughout the year, providing ongoing club support, training, and grant funding opportunities.
