Kilkenny Recreation and Sports Partnership, in association with the Irish Orienteering Association is working to develop Orienteering and Virtual Orienteering across Kilkenny. We have developed permanent courses and mapped many new urban areas for use with MapRun. Our aim is that schools, community groups, families and individuals will try out this exciting, inclusive sport. We encourage you to use MapRun to navigate these courses.
MapRun (version 7) is an IOS/Android Virtual Orienteering app that provides GPS punching and timing for orienteering courses.
There are a number of virtual orienteering courses in County Kilkenny that can be used by the public at any day or time. Note that the Kilkenny castle courses and the Long SW course can only be completed when the Castle grounds are open. Check here.
There are no controls to be put out and results are uploaded automatically. All you need is a smart phone with the MapRun App installed and a printout of the orienteering course map you are completing. Please click on the link below for a detailed description on how to use MapRun.
